Anthony Pacheco, 55, drowned while fishing on Turquoise Lake over the weekend.
According to Anthony Pacheco’s brother Randy, Anthony went out fishing on the lake sometime around 8 a.m. Saturday morning. Around 10 p.m., another of Anthony’s brothers received a call from Anthony’s girlfriend who was concerned because he hadn’t come back yet.
At around 11 p.m., the family called the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, which sent a deputy to the lake. Anthony Pacheco’s truck was found a short time later at the Abe Lee parking lot on the lake’s south side.
Lake County Search and Rescue was called around midnight, Randy Pacheco said. The Search and Rescue team arrived on the scene at about 1:09 a.m., according to a press release from the Sheriff’s Department.
The Pacheco family set up a command post at the Abe Lee parking lot so they could search for Anthony, Randy Pacheco said.
Sometime in the morning, Anthony Pacheco’s dog Buddy, who had gone with him, returned to the truck. The dog then went running back the way he came and stopped on the beach near the northern end of the lake. From the road there, one of Anthony Pacheco’s brothers was able to see a portion of Anthony’s capsized boat.
The Summit County Water Rescue Team was then called in to help with the recovery effort, Randy Pacheco said.
Anthony Pacheco’s body was recovered from the water around 4 p.m. Sunday. He was pronounced dead at the scene, Randy Pacheco said.
According to Randy Pacheco, Anthony Pacheco was an avid fisherman with a lot of experience.
“It wasn’t his first time out,” he said.
A fund for the family has been set up at Pueblo Bank & Trust.
