BOCA RATON, Fla. — Charles “Chuck” William Wiester, formerly an active Minturn resident and valley businessman, died Dec. 14 at Hospice by the Sea in Boca Raton.

Wiester was born in Ohio in 1932 and graduated from the University of Cincinnati and held two master’s degrees. During his life, Wiester was a lieutenant colonel in the Air Force, an architect with his own firm and a professor at two different universities.

Chuck moved to Minturn with his late wife, Vicki Golden, and their dog, Jake, and started the Golden Gourmet in Avon.

Wiester also was on Minturn’s planning and zoning board as well as the town’s visionary committee. Wiester was among the group that starting planning the Minturn Market.

“He was a real renaissance man who was unafraid to try to right wrongs by writing letters to those people he thought could help a cause,” said friend Marcia Moskowitz. “He was an avid reader, wildlife preservation enthusiast and a die-hard environmentalist. He had strong feelings about issues and was not afraid to express them. He affectionately called himself ‘one-eye.’”

Wiester is survived by his sister, Ella, in Pennsylvania; his son, Paul, who lives in Vail; two daughters — Polly in Georgia and Rebecca in Washington; and friend Marcia Moskowitz in Florida and her son, Aaron in New York.

Donations in his memory may be made to the charity of your choice. Anyone who needs the name of a charity can contact Marcia Moskowitz at 8151 Muirhead Circle, Boynton Beach, FL 33437 or (561)734-0828.
