Longtime Grand Junction resident, Larry Abbott, passed away on
Thursday, June 14, 2012, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Grand
Junction. He was 69 years of age.
A private graveside funeral service honoring Larry's life was held
at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at the Cedar Hill Cemetery
in Paonia, Colorado with James Gall officiating.
Laurence Richard Abbott was born to Roland and Virginia Abbott
on January 1, 1943, in Reno, Nevada. He spent his childhood and
attended school in Casper, Wyoming.
After graduating from Natrona County High School in 1961, Larry
furthered his education at Colorado State University in Ft. Collins.
Following his graduation from CSU, Larry honorably served his
country with the United States Army during the Vietnam Era.
On September 13, 1967, Larry married the love of his life, Geraldine
"Geri" Somrak in Grand Junction. To this union, two sons were
born.
Larry, a retired regional environmental manager with the Colorado
Department of Transportation, enjoyed fishing, camping, collecting
coins, golfing and taking vacations. More importantly, he loved and
cherished spending time with his family.
Larry is survived by his wife of 44 years, Geri Abbott of Grand
Junction; two sons, Gary Abbott and wife, Natalie of Lakewood,
CO, and Greg Abbott and wife, Tara of Castle Rock, CO; his
mother, Virginia Abbott; two siblings, Randy Abbott and Cindy
Nolan all of Casper, WY, and three grandchildren, Grant, Grayden
and Benjamin Abbott.
Larry was preceded in death by his father, Roland Abbott.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made in Larry's
name to Digestive Health Alliance, www.dha.org, (700 W. Virginia
St. #201, Milwaukee, WI 53204) in honor of Larry's oldest grandson,
Grant Abbott.
Arrangements were under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral
Service and Crematory.
