Gregory Martin
Assenmacher
December 13, 1958 – January 29, 2013
On Tuesday, January 29th, 2013,
Gregory Martin Assenmacher
joined his father and brother with
the Lord. He was 54 and died of
natural causes in Fruita.
Greg was born on December 13,
1958, in Allen Park, MI to Joanne
and Leo. He was the fifth of seven
children blessed to be part of the Assenmacher family. His olde st
brother, Mark passed in 1969.
He is survived by Karen, Dennis (Christy), Lee (Sara), Paul (Maggie)
and John (Carrie). He was the most wonderful uncle to Mark
and Kelly, Eric and Dennis, Eric and Kaitlin, Jason, Candace, Lindsay,
Morgan and Clayton, and last but not least Colin and Garet.
Greg was the best son possible - he called his mother every s ingle
day.
Greg was married to Lori Bang from 1993 - 2005, and was blessed
with two wonderful children, Haley Ann, born May 2nd, 1994, and
Madison Lynn born October 5, 1997, who were the light of his life.
Haley, from the day she was born was the apple of Greg's eye an d
took her everywhere he went from fishing to shopping. Haley and
her dad spent many precious hours on their boat together,
Greg loved every sport and especially any that he could participate
with his children. Madi and her father developed an extensive offensive
play book in preparation for football games at family reunions.
He married the woman of his dreams, Deletha Dawn Lampshire on
June 11, 2011, and became the proud step-father to Michaela Daw n
Graber and inherited wonderful in-laws, Keith and Darline Lampshire.
Greg had just shared with one of his brothers that the l ast few
years with Deletha were the happiest of his life.
Greg graduated from Madonna College, Livonia, MI and has been
part of Grand Junction Police Department since 1981, graduate o f
FBI National Academy and held nearly every single possible posi -
tion within the Department. Greg was promoted to Commander in
2003.
Greg's numerous charitable activities included Crime Stoppers of
Mesa County, Junior College World Series, Youth Who Care and
many other causes. He was the proudest of his involvement with
Western Slope Center for Children and the World War II Honor
Flights and developed close friendships with many of the vets.
Greg's family finds it hard to tell only one funny story. He was the
center of every family get together - he played a mean game of euchre,
took credit for all cooking successes and even succeeded on
getting his mother on a wave runner for her 80th birthday.
A viewing will be at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary on Saturday, Fe bruary
2, from 5 - 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, February 3, 2013, from 1 -
4 p.m. Service is Monday, February 4th at Fellowship Church at
11:00 a.m. with Interment in the Orchard Mesa Cemetery.
