Robert E. “Bob” Lovato, 60 of Leadville, passed away at home on Monday, May 20.
He was born July 21, 1952 in Gilman, Colo., to Phil and Grace (Pena) Lovato. He married Fran (Vigil) Lovato on Sept. 25, 1976, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Leadville.
Lovato graduated from Lake County High School and received a scholarship to study fine arts at University of Colorado Boulder. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1971 and served until 1974. Lovato received many awards while in the military and was sergeant of his battalion.
He later became a master electrician and worked with IBEW Local No. 68 of Denver, Eagle Valley Electric and Boyels Bros. Drilling Company. He enjoyed fine arts, fishing, hiking, old-bottle collecting, rock specimens, comic books and telling jokes.
Lovato is survived by his wife, Fran, of Leadville; sons, Bobby (Barbara) Lovato, of Leadville, and Chris (Courtney) Lovato, of Longmont; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; sisters, Ida Trujillo, Kathy Fausett, Darlene Montano, Christine Tafoya and Donna Lovato; brother, Michael Lovato; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law, Arcy Vigil; and sister-in-law, Delsie Casias.
A memorial Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, May 23, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Jesse Perez as celebrant, followed by a reception at the Leadville Eagles Lodge. A private inurnment will be held at a later date.
