Ira Wilbur Wybrow, age 96, a resident of Chillicothe, Mo., died Dec. 29, 2011, at the Indian Hills Retirement Village.
Ira was born Feb. 12, 1915, in Spokane, Mo., the son of William Riley Bylieu and Willa Jane (Wood) Wybrow. He was united in marriage to Willa Hazel Trammel on Feb. 23, 1939, in Chillicothe. She preceded him in death on Jan. 21, 2004.
Ira operated draglines and mined gold from 1936 to 1940 in Colorado and from 1940 until 1942 in Montana. In 1943, he mined lead and zinc in Webb City, Mo. The couple then moved to Oklahoma, where Ira mined coal for a living. In 1947, Ira returned to Colorado and operated draglines for Cooly Brothers at Edna Coal Mines.
In 1952, he and his family moved to Valley View Farm near Callao, Mo., and then moved to College Mound, Mo. During this time, Ira began mining coal for Sinclair’s Bevier Coal Co. In 1953, the family relocated once again to Bevier, Mo. In 1955, the family took up residence in Jackson, Ohio, where Ira worked for Broken Arrow Coal Mine, which later became Peabody Coal Co. Ira then began operating shovels. In 1956, the family moved to Wellston, Ohio, and then moved five miles northwest of Chillicothe, Mo., to 25 acres known as “Tater Hill.” Ira finally settled into a job at Dean Machinery, where he was employed until his retirement on Jan. 31, 1977. Ira also served in the Navy from 1942 until 1943 as a Machinist Mate First Class during World War II.
Survivors include one daughter, Joyce Anne Earl, and husband Tom, of Chillicothe, Mo.; three grandchildren, Kelly Anne Christopher, Kimberly Lynn Hayes and husband Vince and Chad Neil Hind and wife Tracy; eight great-grandchildren, Ashton Michael Christopher and wife Tammie, Brent Neil Christopher, Kaley Anne Laffey and husband Wade, Kameron Russell Hind, Jordan Victoria Hayes, Morgan Nicole Hayes, Gabriel Neil Hind and Seth Edwards Hind; two great-grandchildren, Braden Michael Wybrow Christopher and Keagan James Laffey; brother-in-law Neil Trammel; and nephew Tony Neil Trammel and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Willa Hazel Wybrow; one son, Jan Neil Wybrow; one brother, Albert Bylieu; and one nephew, Kevin Trammel.
