FORMER EAGLE PHYSICIAN KILLS SELF AT EVANS. Dr. Henry W. AVERILL was located in Gypsum and Eagle twenty-five years ago.
Dr. Henry W. AVERILL, prominent physician here many years ago, was found dead Saturday on an unfrequented farm lane near the Platte river in Weld county.
The doctor came to Colorado from Vermont in 1905. He first located at Gypsum when coming to Colorado and soon after moved to Eagle, where he practiced for several years. Leaving here he took post-graduate work in his profession in an eastern college and then located at Evans, near Greeley, where he has since lived and practiced. He was a prominent member of the Weld county Medical society.
Dr. T. C. WILMOTH, coroner, and Deputy Sheriff Guy McGINESS, of Weld county, said after investigating that Dr. AVERILL parked his automobile at the side of the road, then lay down on the road and fired one shot through his heart.
A .38-caliber revolver was found lying beside the body. The investigators said the physician was despondent over ill health. He was 62 years old.
In 1918, Dr. AVERILL was married, but no children were born to the couple. The widow survives.
During the year he lived here the doctor took a prominent part in the affairs of the community, and when old timers get together and talk over the early days of the century in this part of the county, his name still creeps into the conversation.
