Nancy Irene (Thorson) Deshayes, 71, of Eagle, passed away on June 23 surrounded by her family after a courageous fight against cancer.
She was born in LaCrosse, Wis., to Tenart and Mildred (Benson) Thorson of Houston, Minn., on Dec. 28, 1941. Upon graduating Houston High School in 1958, she completed her registered nursing degree at St. Francis School of Nursing (now Viterbo University) in LaCrosse in 1961. She married Melvin Goede of Houston, Minn., in 1963 and together they had two sons, Paul David Deshayes and Jon Kevin Deshayes. Her nursing career led her from Minnesota to Colorado, where she worked at various hospitals including Weld County General Hospital in Greeley, Vail Valley Medical Center and the Steadman-Hawkins Clinic in Vail. In 1972, she married Ernie Deshayes of Sterling, and together they had two sons, Mark David Deshayes and Eric Thorson Deshayes. She retired in 2006 after dedicating over 40 years of her life to the nursing profession.
She loved being outside in the Colorado mountains and enjoyed hiking, four-wheeling, fishing and camping. She was a member of the Vail Mountain Rescue and volunteered for work on the Colorado trail system. For years, she spent countless hours volunteering as a victim’s advocate for the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office. Nancy spent her life caring for others and giving back to the land she loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Tenart and Mildred Thorson, step-father Clifton Gaustad, brother Larry Thorson and step-daughter Deanna Deshayes.
She is survived by husband, Ray Bobson, of the home; sister Evonne (Thorson) and husband Richard Snow, brother Ted Thorson and wife Betty, sister-in-law Peggy Thorson, all of Houston, Minn.; sons Paul Deshayes, of Cortez, Jon Deshayes and wife Heather, of Chillicothe, Mo., and Mark Deshayes and Eric Deshayes, both of Gypsum; grandchildren Courtney Deshayes, of Avondale, Ariz., and Evan and Emily Deshayes, of Chillicothe, Mo.; step-sons Mike Deshayes, of Sterling, and Stephen Deshayes, of Ogallala, Neb., and Van Deshayes and wife Tori, of Hong Kong, China.
She is loved and missed by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. A memorial service will be held at the Stone Church in rural Houston, Minn., on July 20. Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. The life celebration service with begin at 11 a.m. with graveside services immediately following. Friends and family are invited to a lunch following in the church fellowship hall.
