Sandra Ruth Jones, 66, of Edwards, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday. She was a cherished wife, mother, friend, child, sister, grandmother and owner/manager of a successful garden and landscape business. She was passionate about nursing, gardening, antiques and traveling. She will be sorely missed.

Sandy was born March 21, 1947, in Fairbury, Neb., to Deloris and Gerhard Onnen. Sandy graduated from Hebron High School in 1965, and went on to receive her degree in nursing from Lincoln General School of Nursing in 1968. She worked in nursing as a RN for many years. Using her knowledge of medicine and her warm heart, she helped heal and treat many people.

Sandy met her husband, Marty Jones, in 1981 while on a weeklong trip to Vail. They were married a year later on Sept. 25, 1982, on the top of Vail Mountain overlooking the Mount of the Holy Cross. They united their lives together and created a large family of four daughters.

Sandy teamed up with her husband in the mid-1980s to create a landscape and retail garden center business that has been in the valley for 31 years. Sandy’s passions were evident in the vision and atmosphere she created in her quaint destination retail shop. Sandy was proud to help bring beauty, color and joy to gardens, landscapes and homes. Sandy respected her business as a second home and extended family — her employees were very dear to her.

Sandy was a loyal and faithful member of Gracious Savior Lutheran Church in Edwards since 1985. She also was an avid gardener and antique collector, and loved to travel and spend time with her family.

Sandy spent her life giving to others, both enriching and lifting up the lives around her. She had an inner light and peace that warmed those around her. She is a gracious, thoughtful, and loving soul. Sandy made this place better just by being here, an irreplaceable spirit that will be missed by so many.

Sandy is survived by her father and mother, Gerhard and Deloris; five brothers, Mick, Tim, Tom, Joel, Rick, and their wives; husband Marty; two daughters, Carley and Stacey; two stepdaughters, Marta and Jessica; two grandchildren Finn and Estin; two sons-in-law, Josh and Joel; sister-in-law Barb; and many nephews and nieces. Sandy was preceded in death by her brother Bob.

Sandy will be laid to rest near Gladstone, Neb., Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. A memorial service to celebrate Sandy’s life will be held in Edwards on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Gracious Savior Lutheran Church for all friends and family. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be sent to Gracious Savior Lutheran Church in honor of Sandy Jones.
