Vail Mountain School student Zeke Pierce dies in biking accident.
VAIL — A Vail Mountain School student has died from injuries sustained in a mountain-biking accident last weekend.

Zeke Pierce, a high school student at the school, was injured Saturday on Vail Mountain. Family friend Susan Washing said Pierce was initially treated at Vail Valley Medical Center, then flown to Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs. He was in a medically-induced coma at Children’s Hospital in Denver when he died.

The family, through friends Denny and Sheila Linn, Thursday released the following statement:

“Zeke died this afternoon, surrounded by the love and care of his family, at Children’s Hospital in Denver, of injuries related to his bicycle accident. He never regained consciousness, and he died peacefully. Knowing it is what he would want, his family has donated his wonderful, strong heart and organs so that others can live.

“The family has asked us to preside at a memorial service to celebrate Zeke’s life. We are in the process of making arrangements with them. We will announce the time and place as soon as possible. The family hopes you will attend. They know there are many of you wanting to help in any way you can. The best way you can help for now is to give Zeke’s family the privacy they need. Please don’t call or visit at this time. Please do send them all the love you have for them, from your heart to theirs.

In addition, an account for Zeke’s medical bills has been established at Alpine Bank. The memo number is 3470143982. Donations can be made at any Alpine Bank or be mailed to P.O. Box 7330, Avon 81620.

Remembering Zeke today.
This registration in the Star Registry vault in Switzerland, recorded in the astronomical compendium in remembrance, hanging in the beautiful Colorado sky named in memorian of Zeke Pierce, Sept. 13, 1977-July 18, 2013, was among the kind and loving things people did on behalf of Zeke and his family.
To say thank you for every dinner you comforted us with and every card, email and call you made to us would not be enough. But what we can do is thank each and every one of you and apologize if we left you out. We want to let you know that what really matters is the kindness and love we show one another.
Sh here goes--a thousand thanks, as they say in Norway, from Zeke who is in heaven, Max, Liv, Crawford, Mia and Nikken. To all the people who have felt our pain, on this day which would have been Zeke's 16th birthday.
