Steamboat Pilot - January 10, 2010

Patricia Ann “Patty” Sage, 62, died Jan. 6 at The Memorial Hospital in Craig from complications of pneumonia.
Patty was born June 14, 1947, in Oakdale, Calif., the daughter of Johnie and Marian “Marshall” Sage. She was raised most of her life in and around Riverbank and Modesto, Calif., attending school there. When she was a child, the family moved to Yampa and Steamboat Springs to be near family for a short time and then back to California. At the age of 3, Patty was stricken with polio while in Yampa and was crippled with arthritis by her early teens, leaving her in need of constant care. She shared the home with her mother until they both moved to the ranch home of her cousin, Linda, and her husband, Dusty Long, on Trout Creek on May 15, 1998.
She enjoyed the family gatherings for Christmas, birthdays and picnics. She enjoyed looking out of the window at the changing seasons, waiting for the visits of the hummingbirds and chickadees at the feeders as she kept an eye on their food supply.
While living with Linda and Dusty, she learned to do counted cross-stitch, doing beautiful pieces shared with family for birthdays, weddings and births, many times having to pull the needle through with her teeth. She won many ribbons at the Routt County Fair that she was very proud of.
She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.
She is survived by her sister, Shelia (Charles) Ford, of Oakdale, Calif.; brother Wesley (Nancy) Sage, of West Forks, Ark.; aunt Marguerite Anderson, of Trout Creek; uncle and aunt Lawrence and Gladys Marshall, of Meeker and Craig; uncle and aunt Virgil and Clarice Marshall, of Clifton; cousin Linda and husband Dusty Long, of Trout Creek; several nieces and nephews and several cousins.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church in Yampa. Interment will follow at the Yampa Cemetery.
