Marvin U. Shively, formerly of Peoria, Ill., passed away March 19, 2010, at the Doak Walker Care Center in Steamboat Springs. Marvin was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy.
Marvin was born in La Place, Ill., on May 26, 1917, to Festus and Emily Urban Shively. He graduated from Millikin University in Decatur, Ill., in 1941. He joined the Air Force in July of 1941. He reached the rank of staff sergeant and was part of the 47th Bombardment Group in Italy. Marvin was honorably discharged Oct. 12, 1945.
Marvin and Dorothy were married in Decatur, Ill., on March 29, 1947. They later moved to Peoria for Marvin’s job with Caterpillar Tractor Co. He retired from his accounting position in February 1981 after 35 years of service.
Marvin was a volunteer at the Methodist Medical Center for many years and was a longtime member of the First Church of the Brethren-Peoria.
Marvin is survived by his son, John, and his wife, Kate, of Steamboat Springs; his granddaughters, Jennifer, of Toluca Lake, Calif., and Nicole, of Breckenridge; his sister, Verena Clement, of Merritt Island, Fla.; her son, Jym MacPherson, of Melbourne, Fla.; his brother-in-law, Ralph Wieand, and his daughter Janet, of Wheaton, Ill.
