Agnes Inez Eason Miner was born March 4, 1917, in Waco, Ga., to Hamie Otis Eason and Ophelia Belle Eason. She was the youngest of eight children. The family moved to Lexington, Ky., when she was 5 years old and lived there for three years before moving to Nicholasville, Ky., where she graduated from high school. She received her bachelor’s degree in 1938 from Transylvania University in Lexington.
She was working as a field representative for the Bureau of Labor and Statistics when she met Truxton (Ray) Miner, and the two married Oct. 18, 1946, in Denver. They made their home in Steamboat Springs and had one child, Gary Evan. She worked as a bookkeeper for a Boy’s Market and later for her husband’s radio and television sales and service business. She also worked as a hostess at the El Rancho restaurant for a number of years.
She accepted the Lord Jesus as her Savior as a child and loved and served Him. She was active as a Sunday school teacher and children’s church worker for many years at Euzoa Bible Church. She faithfully attended services at Anchor Way Baptist Church until a stroke in January 2010 made it impossible for her to attend. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray, in 1984, and her son, Gary, in 2005. She is survived by three grandchildren: Matthew Allen Miner, of Denver; and Christopher Ray and Amy Laverne Miner, of Hayden; one great-grandchild, Jacob Ray Miner, of Denver; and her daughter-in-law, Connie (Miner) Pascetti.
One of the things we will most remember about Agnes is her positive attitude. She chose to make every day a “good” day. Even after her stroke at the Doak Walker Care Center when she was confined to a wheelchair, she continued to smile at the other residents and brighten their day. Interment of her remains is at 1 p.m. May 2, 2010, at the Steamboat Springs Cemetery
