Steamboat Today - June 13, 2010

Elvin Coy Miles, age 86, passed away at the Doak Walker Care Center on June 4, 2010. He was born Nov. 19, 1923, son of Ed and Rosie Miles, and the second of five children. He is survived by his five children, Betty Ann Milano, of Las Vegas; Duane Miles, of Steamboat Springs; John Miles, of Roy, Utah; Terri McNutt, of Olathe; Lance Miles, of Oak Creek; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
His family has been in the Yampa Valley area for more than 100 years and homesteaded throughout the valley. As a young man, he joined the Navy and served his country during World War II. Upon returning, he went to work for Rio Grande Motorway and spent more than 35 years delivering freight throughout the valley. He would often share a story and cup of coffee with customers along his route. He never really knew a stranger; everyone received a warm smile and handshake.
Elvin always had a special place in his heart for small children and those who suffered. He was loved and will be truly missed.
A private family gathering is planned. Lord, set your gentle hand on his shoulders.
