James D. “Jim” Kauffman, longtime South Routt resident, passed away Dec. 25, 2010. He was born May 25, 1920, in Tabernash. He was the son of Raymond C. and Florence (Eckstrom) Kauffman, of Yampa. He was raised on the family ranch at the Finger Rock Fish Hatchery. He retired from Energy Coal Mine after 16 years of service as a welder. He also was a proud member of VMWA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothea (Dee); son Danny, of Texas; two sisters, Pearl Kauffman and Fern Canaday (Kauffman); and granddaughter Angela Trout (Kauffman), of Fort Morgan.
He is survived by daughters Daisy (Lucky) Anderson, of Commerce City, Rita (John) Riley, of Oak Creek, and Lana (Aaron) Martinez, of Oak Harbor, Wash.; stepdaughter Cathy (Lenord), of Bullhead City, Ariz.; grandchildren Misty (Josh) Bankstin, of Arvada, John Riley Jr. (Jay), of Oak Creek, Luanna Riley, of Denver, Lars, Tara, and Nicoyia, of Oak Harbor, Wash., and Richard Trout (Kauffman), of Brush; stepgrandchildren Paul, Jennifer, Jim, Chris and Bill, all of the Denver area; 28 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
