RALPH RUDER KILLED ON BATTLE MT.
The death of a Minturn man a week before Christmas brought sadness to many who knew Ralph RUDER and his family.
Mr. RUDER was killed Dec. 18, 1961, when the stake truck he was driving west on Battle Mountain went into a curve on snowpacked Highway 24 and slid through a guard rail then rolled down the mountainside. With Mr. RUDER was his wife, Beatrice. They were both thrown from the truck. He was dead when help arrived, and Mrs. RUDER suffered head cuts, bruises and abrasions. She was treated at the Gilman hospital.
Lawrence CHADWICK, former Eagle County man, came along a short time after the accident as Mrs. RUDER was climbing up the mountainside, and went to her aid. The truck went off the road three miles east of Minturn, on the "S" curve.
The truck, owned by Fleming Lumber Co., was demolished.
Mr. RUDER was 45 years old and was the only child of John and Edna RUDER. He and his family lived on the family homestead on Gore Creek and he was employed by Fleming Lumber Co. Besides his wife and parents, Mr. RUDER is survived by three children: Leonard 11, Billy 10 and Darlene 6.
Funeral services are being held today at the Minturn Assembly of God Church with Reverend Ray McBEE officiating. Miller Mortuary is director of arrangements.
