Steamboat Today - December 19, 2010

Leonard LeRoy Glaze, of Wellington, passed away in his home surrounded by family Nov. 29, 2010. He was 67.
He was born Oct. 10, 1943, in Steamboat Springs to Glenn LeRoy and Marguerite Eva Marshall Glaze, who ranched south of Yampa. Leonard grew up loving horses and ranching.
He attended country schools in Toponas and McCoy until his family moved to Steamboat where he attended high school. As a welder, Leonard worked in the Edna and Energy Fuels coal mining operations in Oak Creek. As a member of Union 798 he worked as a pipeline welder in many states. He also helped his brother with a trailer manufacturing business in Cortez. Leonard also worked for a long time as a long-haul truck driver. Throughout all his jobs, Leonard kept up his horses and love of ranch life.
Leonard broke and trained horses all his life, and he shod horses until he was no longer able to do it. He learned the trade from Doc Marshall, his grandfather.
He loved the outdoors, camping in the Flat Tops Wilderness Area, riding broncs and bulls, team roping, hunting, fishing, spending and sharing everything with his family. His favorite hobby was horsehair braiding and making beautiful leather work items to share with friends and family.
Leonard is survived by his wife, Jean “Ticer” Glaze, of Wellington; his mother, Marguerite Glaze Anderson, of Oak Creek; a daughter, Barbara Glaze, of California; sons Richard Dean Kuhlman, of Colorado Springs, and Jason Linn Glaze, of Ault; stepdaughters Katy Reff, of Pasadena, Texas, Becky Norman, of Santa Fe, Texas, Jennifer Mash and Stephanie Johnson; four grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; sister Linda Long, of Oak Creek; sister-in-law Sharon Glaze, of Wellington; mother-in-law Minnie Ticer, of Wellington; uncles Lawrence Marshall, of Meeker and Craig, and Virgil Marshall, of Clifton; aunt Lovevilla Lekey, of Cimarron, Kan.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Glenn Glaze; a daughter, Julie Shannon Glaze; a brother, Douglas L. Glaze; and grandparents Lee and Cora Glaze and Doc and Lucy Marshall.
A funeral was held Dec. 3, 2010, at Yampa Bible Church. Interment followed at the Yampa Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Patient’s Access Foundation at www.panfoundation.org or P.O. Box 60336, Charlotte, N.C. 28260.
