Ernest Fred Lombardi was born in Denver on July 14, 1926, to Propser and Pauline Lombardi. His family relocated from Denver to Phippsburg in 1939. He graduated from Yampa High School in 1945 and then moved to Oak Creek. He met Joann Marie Mowery in Oak Creek and married her at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in 1950. Ernie served in the Korean War from 1951 to 1953.
Upon his return, he worked with his father and brother in the timber business and then opened Lombardi's Service in 1956, where he devoted most of his life as a well-respected business owner in Oak Creek. After selling the station he worked with his brother in the Denver area for Mountain Bell and then in landfill operations at the landfill sites in Oak Creek and Milner.
Ernie was preceded in death by his mother, Pauline; father, Prosper Sr.; brothers, Prosper Jr. and Georgie; and his grandson, Nicholas.
He is survived by his adoring wife, Joann; devoted children, Rocco and his wife, Jeanie, Ernie and his wife, Karen, Lori and her husband, Gerry, Bambi and his three granddaughters, Cara, Marisa and Kelsey. Also, his loving sisters, Marie, and her husband, Donald, and family; Gloria, and her husband, Michael, and family; and his sister-in-law, Mary Lou, and her family.
Ernie was a member of the Oak Creek Lions Club, Knights of Columbus and a member of the volunteer fire department. Ernie loved fishing, especially in Lake Powell, being with his family and drinking Chianti along with eating pasta, Italian cheese and salami. As a matter of fact, he made it clear, upon his death, that we were to celebrate his life with a nice "salute" with a glass of wine as opposed to flowers and sadness.
A rosary was held at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church on Jan. 18, followed by funeral services Jan. 19. Interment was at the Oak Creek Cemetery, followed by a reception at the Catholic church.
