Marvin Andrew White of Fort Collins passed away Jan. 14, 2008. He was 76.
Marv was born Sept. 8, 1932, in Lawrence, Kan., the only child of Floyd F. and Rachael M. White. He lived in Lawrence until he finished high school and chose to attend Colorado A & M (CSU).
Marv's family opened and owned the Knotty Pine Cafe on College Avenue and Stuart Street. Marv graduated from Colorado A & M in 1955 with a bachelor of science degree and entered into the real estate industry with Moore Realty in Denver.
In 1958, Marv completed a tour of duty with the U.S. Armed Services in Korea.
In 1959, he married Hazel Byers in Boulder and they resided in Fort Collins. They had two children, David and Carrie. In 1969, he moved with his wife and young children to Steamboat Springs to open a restaurant at the ski area. Marv made a career in the restaurant industry, real estate, and retired from Colorado Yampa Coal in 1992. In 1996, he moved back to Fort Collins to be near his children and grandchildren.
Marv enjoyed snow skiing, water skiing, golf and music. He was a gourmet chef who loved to cook for family and friends.
Marv is survived by Hazel, his wife of 48 years; his daughter Carrie Gillis and her husband Fran of Fort Collins; his son David White and his wife Felisa of Windsor; and grandchildren Lucas, Molly and Jacob Gillis, all of Fort Collins. Marv also is survived by his cousins in Texas, California, Oklahoma and Kansas, and one aunt in Kansas.
His parents preceded him in death.
The family would like to express deep appreciation to Dr. Timothy Allen and his entire staff, and Dr. Tim Podhajsky for the care they provided during the past five years. A special thank you to Elderhaus and Columbine Care Center West and their staffs, who were so gracious and caring during Marv's illness.
A memorial service was held at 1 p.m. Jan. 19, 2008, at Harmony Presbyterian Church, 400 E. Boardwalk Drive in Fort Collins, with the Rev. Larry Kunter officiating. A reception was held at Elks Lodge No. 804, 140 E. Olive St. in Fort Collins, immediately following the memorial service. A private family burial has taken place.
