Wilma Jean Stark, of Hayden, died Feb. 5, 2009, at her daughter's home in Craig. She was 92.
Wilma was born Sept. 27, 1916, in Roane, Tenn., the daughter of Jasper D. and Emma (Stevens) Phillips. She was raised and attended school in Tennessee.
Wilma married William Stark on July 11, 1936, in Steamboat Springs. They made their home in Oak Creek before moving to Hayden in 1958. Wilma was a homemaker and also worked as a waitress.
Wilma was an adamant supporter of the United Mine Workers, and she enjoyed quilting, crocheting, gardening, baking and fishing.
She is survived by her daughter Beverly Chenoweth; her husband Ron, of Craig; and her granddaughter Jolene Prescott, her husband, Ken, and their son, William, all of Hayden. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William and her half-sister Trixie.
A funeral was held Feb. 12, 2009, at Mission of Grace Church in Hayden, with Pastor Doug Zirkle officiating. Beccy Lanier sang "Amazing Grace," "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Peace in the Valley," accompanied by Jennifer Swedberg on the piano. Pallbearers were Danny Green, Dominic Fritts, Tim Howe, Billy Bertram and Bill and Jack Johnson. Interment followed in the Oak Creek Cemetery where she was laid to rest next to her husband.
Memorial donations may be made to the Pediatric Unit of St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction, in care of Grant Mortuary.
