Paul B. AndersonMarguerite Eva Anderson, 88, peacefully passed away Feb. 11, 2013, surrounded by her family in her home on the Trout Creek Ranch outside Oak Creek.
Born Aug. 1, 1924, at the home of a midwife in Yampa, she was the third child of Lawrence “Doc” and Eva Evans Marshall and the granddaughter of South Routt homesteaders Logan and Pearl Marshall and Billy and Mariam Evans.
Marguerite’s parents were cattle ranchers and ran the 21 Ranch near Burns until her parents purchased the Gibbs Ranch, now known as Finger Rock Ranch, three miles south of Yampa. In 1928, Eva suddenly passed away, leaving four children younger than 5 to be raised by their dad.
Marguerite, riding on horseback, attended school in Yampa through her high school years.
She met Glenn L. Glaze, a ranch hand from Egeria Park, and they were married Sept. 28, 1942, in Rawlins, Wyo. They spent their honeymoon on a hunting trip in the Flat Tops. To this union, three children were born: Leonard, Linda and Douglas.
They continued cattle ranching near Yampa, and then Glenn went to work for Frank Strutzel Sawmill and Timber Camps. In 1952, the family moved to Steamboat Springs, where Glenn and Marguerite started working for the school district. He was a custodian, and she was a cook.
Because of Glenn’s failing health, he retired, and they moved to Colorado Springs in 1967. Glenn passed away in 1970.
She met Paul B. Anderson, of Colorado Springs, and they were married Dec. 15, 1972. They resided in San Diego before returning to Colorado in 1975 to make their home in Westminster. Paul passed away Aug. 15, 1997.
In 2003, she moved back to the Yampa Valley to be near her family.
Marguerite was a member of the Yampa Ladies Aid, Toponas Home Demonstration Club and the Ladies Auxiliary for 32 years. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, quilting, needlework and canning. Her greatest love of all was her family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence “Doc” and Eva; stepmother Lucy Marshall; husbands Glenn L. Glaze and Paul B. Anderson; brother Lawrence “Bill” Marshall; sister Marian Sage; sons Leonard L. Glaze and Douglas L. Glaze; grandchildren Jennifer Eileen Glaze, Julie Shannon Glaze and Donald LeRoy Long; and niece Patricia Sage.
