Steamboat Today - March 2, 2008

Sgt. Eric Arthur O'Hara of the Third Brigade of the 82nd Airborne Division died Feb. 28, 2008, in an accident in Steamboat Springs. He was 24.
Eric was born March 22, 1983, in Denver. He spent his early childhood in Denver before moving to Steamboat Springs in 1998. He attended Steamboat Springs High School and graduated in 2002. After graduating, he joined the U.S. Army's 82nd Airborne Division, in 2004. He did basic training in Fort Sill, Okla. After completing the five months of basic, he transferred to Fort Bragg, N.C., to begin his military commitment.
During the four years he was in the military, he made the rank of sergeant and was honored with numerous awards, having fought in Iraq and Afghanistan protecting our freedom. Eric committed his life to Jesus and followed this statement with a believer's baptism in August 2000. While on the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan, Eric discovered and moved into a closer personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.

Eric was preceded in death by his great-grandmother, Mildred Fenton; grandfathers Lowell Spurgeon and Rod O'Hara; uncle Gary Spurgeon, and numerous fallen brothers in the 82nd Airborne. He is survived by his mother, Terri Montag; step-father Bill Montag; his father, Gregory O'Hara, and Katharine Connelly; his fiancee, Brittany Lamb; grandmother Delores Spurgeon; sisters Carissa Berlet, Holly Montag, Heidi Montag, and Caitlin O'Hara; brothers John Montag and Chris Montag; brother-in-law Luke Berlet; niece Abigail Berlet; nephews Joseph Berlet and Jonathen Berlet; uncle David Patston; aunt Rhonda Patston; cousins Ashley Patston, Meghan Patston, Matthew Patston and Emily Patston, and a large extended family.
A funeral service is at 11 a.m. March 5, 2008, at the Sheraton Steamboat Resort. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. March 4, 2008, at the Yampa Valley Funeral Home. Interment is March 6, 2008, at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Eric O'Hara Memorial Fund at Mountain Valley Bank.
