Velda Dewetta Hutchinson, known as "Dewey" to her friends, died Feb. 23, 2008, in Albuquerque, N.M., after a courageous battle with cancer.
Dewetta was born on a farm in Willow Springs, Mo. She was the youngest child of a large rural family that included nine older brothers.
Dewetta married her husband, Bill, in 1956. They got their start raising a family in Golden. In 1969, Dewetta and Bill put together every nickel that they could raise and purchased Jay's Sheet Metal in Steamboat Springs. Dewetta also enjoyed a successful real estate career. Dewetta enjoyed a quality life in the Yampa Valley and was pleased to call Steamboat Springs her home.
Dewetta really enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Other interests include camping, fishing, travel and homemaking.
Dewetta is survived by her husband, William, of Steamboat Springs; two daughters, Tammy Green of Steamboat Springs and Shery Hutchinson of Montrose; one son, Rodney Hutchinson of Steamboat Springs; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and three brothers. Everyone fortunate enough to know Dewetta will miss her dearly.
A private memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Willie Lewis Fund at First National Bank of Steamboat Springs, or visit www.helpwillielewis.org.
