Cecil Kenneth Conner died March 30, 2008, at the Doak Walker Care Center in Steamboat Springs. He was 93.
Cecil was born Nov. 23, 1914, in Craig, the son of Walter E. and Lilly Grace (Kipp) Conner. He was the second of eight children.
Cecil grew up in northwestern Colorado, residing with his family in Sunbeam, Browns Park and Maybell. In his early years, he rustled horses and worked for Mantel Ranch, and later for the Johnsons in Hayden.
Cecil married Billie Roberts in 1951, and they resided in Maybell and Bonanza, where Cecil worked at the Gilsonite mine. To this union two daughters were born: Irene Denise and Cilia Gay. He and Billie were later divorced, and Cecil married Helen Aspengreen in 1958. They lived on their ranch at Greenridge near Phippsburg and, later, in the town of Phippsburg. They were divorced in 1993.
He enjoyed horses, working with horsehair and rawhide, making bridles, lariats and lamb's wool rugs.
Cecil is survived by his daughters, Irene Visintainer, of Craig, and Mariea Conner and her companion, Don McElhinney, of Phippsburg. He also is survived by his sister, Carol Mead, of Hamilton. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Crystal and Sheryl and brothers Earl, Clyde, Everett and Leroy.
Funeral services were held April 5 at the South Routt Bible Church, with Pastor Tom Harves officiating. Katy Louthan sang "Heroes," "Cowboy's Castle" and "Back in the Saddle Again." Gene Sanders played the keyboard. Pallbearers were Dean Rossi, Jim Lyons, Richard Villa, Dutch Ebaugh, Russell Railsback and Don McElhinney. Honorary pallbearers were Ray Iacovetto, Blaine Whaley and Jim Carr, all in memoriam. A Masonic Service was rendered by members of the Egeria Lodge #167 AF&AM. Interment followed in the Craig Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the family in care of Grant Mortuary, 621 Yampa Ave. in Craig.
