Nile Albert Mason was born Jan. 13, 1941, in Del Norte, the son of Lloyd and Landa (Madonna) Mason. Nile was raised in Denver and graduated from Regis High School. After high school, Nile served in the U.S. Navy.
He married Beverly Ann McConkey on March 21, 1965, in Denver. They became the parents of three children and lived in various communities including Denver, Fort Collins and Green Mountain before moving to Steamboat Springs in 1976. Nile spent 25 years with Safeway, ending his career as a store manager. He then opened his own insulation business in Steamboat.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, baseball, playing poker and watching sports on TV. Nile was a big supporter of the Routt County 4-H program and served on the Routt County Fair board.
Nile died March 19, 2013, at Yampa Valley Medical Center following a brief illness. He was 72.
Nile is survived by his daughters Brandi and husband, Nathan Citron, of Yampa, and Shani and husband, Otto Mihalich Jr., of Fruita; son Brett and wife, Stephanie, of Oak Creek; grandchildren Robert Lloyd Mason, Jephery Donaldson, Danielle Jones, Ashley Nicole Mason, Tiana Mihalich, Jade Ann Citron and Craig Nathaniel Citron; great-grandchildren Alexis Kay Donaldson and Elizabeth May Jones; sisters Terry Hale and husband, Vernon, of Denver, and Anita Mason, of Twin Lakes; brother Dale Mason and wife, Sandy, of Phoenix; and sister-in-law Peggy Mason, of Broken Arrow, Okla.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly, his parents and his brother Grant Joseph.
Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service is at 1 p.m. today at The Steamboat Grand.
Memorial donations may be made to the Mason Family 4-H Livestock Sale Fund, in care of Grant Mortuary.
