Viola Bernice Douglas Ward
passed away in Grand Junction,
Colorado on Saturday, February
16, 2013, just two days short of
her 96th birthday.
She was born February 18, 1917,
at Clifton, Colorado to Alvaro D.
Douglas and Anna Fredericka
Dresselhous.
Roy Samuel Ward, Sr. and Viola were married April 30, 1940, i n
Baggs, Wyoming. Viola worked as a cook at the Colorado State
Home and Training School until her retirement. She belonged to the
Moose Lodge and volunteered in the Foster Grandparent Program.
You may remember her as the Mayor of Fruita or for her columns in
the Fruita Times entitled "Just Wondering".
Viola is survived by children, Betty Rose Pettigrew of Huntsv ille,
Alabama; Roy Samuel Ward, Jr. and his wife, Peggy Sadler of
Grand Junction, and Floyd Dee Ward and his wife, Rhonda Kay
White of Fruita. Grandchildren include Kelly Pettigrew of Dulce ,
NM; Penny J. Pettigrew of Huntsville, Alabama; Shane and Lloyd
Ward of Grand Junction; Cory Ward (deceased); Justin Ward of
Fruita, and six great-grandchildren. Sam preceded her in death in
November, 1958.
Viewing will be held at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary in Grand Jun ction
Friday, February 22, 2013, from 6 - 8:00p.m. Funeral servi ces
will be held at the LDS Chapel on Ottley Avenue in Fruita Saturday,
February 23, 2013 at 10:00 a.m.
Donations may be made to Moose Heart Charities in Viola's nam e
in lieu of flowers.

Viola B. Ward, 95, Grand Junction, died Feb. 16, 2013, at Larchwood
Inns.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary
Chapel. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at The Church
of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Fruita, followed by burial at
New Elmwood Cemetery.
Ms. Ward was a cook.
Survivors include two sons, Roy Jr. of Grand Junction and Floyd
of Fruita; one daughter, Betty R. Pettigrew of Huntsville, Ala.; one
brother, Russell Douglas of Grants, N.M.; six grandchildren; eight
great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Memorial contributions to Moose Heart care of the Moose Lodge,
567 25 1/2 Road, Grand Junction 81505.
