Alice was born Oct. 18, 1918, in Canon City. While in school, she worked in the gardens in Canon City, picking vegetables to pay for school and clothing. Alice and her first husband, Mr. Ranger, were married Oct. 24, 1936. They lived in Chandler and later in Oak Creek, moving to Mount Harris in 1941. They lived in Mount Harris until 1955, when they moved to Loveland, later moving to Berthoud in 1955. In 1963, they moved to Campion. Mr. Ranger died Jan. 1, 1965.
On Oct. 25, 1971, Alice married Alfred O'Daniels in Wheatland, Wyo. They lived in Campion for a couple of years, and retired from Colorado State University. They traveled in a recreational trailer throughout the U. S. and wintered in Texas. They enjoyed travel and Alice was able to see new places. Alfred died Aug. 23, 1979.
On Oct. 6, 1985, Alice married James Harry Lewis in Greeley. After their marriage, they lived at Hill-n-Park. They enjoyed travel, gardening and their home. Her husband died Oct. 1, 1990.
Alice was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Greeley. She was an active volunteer at Loveland VFW Auxiliary for several years, when she was younger. She volunteered in her later years at the Hill-n-Park Senior Center.
She was a very hard worker and a saver of many things people would have discarded. She loved to cook and bake bread and cinnamon rolls. Her kitchen always smelled like freshly baked bread. Alice was very strong-willed, but giving and she loved children, dogs, cats and birds. She was an excellent seamstress; many times she didn't use a pattern. Alice loved to read. She encouraged her children to pursue their education. She was very artistic, creating beautiful ceramics, painting, and she also enjoyed tatting. Time spent with family was very important to her.
Alice is survived by her daughter, Dawn Ranger, of Plymouth, Minn.; son, Robert J. Ranger, and his wife, Sarah, of Clarksville, Ark.; five grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in deaths by her daughter, Violet LaVern Ochs, who died June 15, 1996; and brother, E.J. Arnold, Jr.
A memorial service was held Thursday at Stoddard Funeral Home in Greeley, followed by interment at Foothill Gardens of Memory in Longmont.
