Dr. Hurst Franklin Otto, a Grand
Junction resident for 60 years,
died peacefully on February 20th,
following a valiant struggle with

were at his side. A devoted husband,
father, grandfather, brother,
a n d f r i e n d t o m a n y , h i s e a s y

Born in Scottsbluff, NE on February 2, 1927, Otto was the third of
five children born to Walter J. Otto, Sr. and Marie Healy Otto. He
came of age in during the Great Depression and was a proud and

City Council during an era that saw significant expansion in the
Grand Valley. He was lifelong member and past president of the Lions
Club and was instrumental in raising financial support for the
Lions' vision-related services to underserved populations. As Advisory
Board Chairman of Grand Junction's Parks Improvement
Committee, Otto was instrumental in planning and development of
the Canyon View Park. His proudest affiliation, however, was as a
Charter Member of the Junior College Baseball Committee (JUCO)
and serving as a JUCO committee member for 45 years. In 2001, he
was inducted into the JUCO Hall of Fame.
