Jean M. Bruce, 88, Hayden, died June 2, 2013, at Yampa Valley
Medical Center in Steamboat Springs.
Services are pending with Grant Mortuary.
Ms. Bruce was a telephone operator.
Survivors include one son, Wes Hiner of Montana; two daughters,
Norma Dietrich of Hayden and Lois Bradshaw of Montrose; one
brother, Jack Wharton of Grand Junction; four grandchildren,;and
nine great-grandchildren.

Jean M. Wharton Bruce was born April 7, 1925, in Mesa the daughter of Jack and Minnie (Heeley) Wharton. She was raised and attended school in Mesa and graduated from high school there.
She married T.J. Franklin in 1943 in Texas, and they became the parents of a daughter.
They later divorced, and she married Wayne Hiner in 1949; they became the parents of three children. They later divorced, and in 1971, she married Charles Bruce.
Jean was a homemaker and worked as an operator for the telephone company for 30-plus years.
Jean lived many years in Colorado Springs and then spent 16 years in Battlement Mesa, then Craig and Steamboat Springs before moving to the Haven Assisted Living Center in Hayden in 2012. She enjoyed china painting, cooking, gardening and caring for her flowers. She was a member of the Ladies of the Nile at Ruhama Temple in Colorado Springs and was named queen of that group in 1983, an honor of which she was always very proud.
Jean died June 2, 2013, at Yampa Valley Medical Center in Steamboat. She was 88.
She is survived by her daughters Norma Dietrich and her husband, Ed, of Steamboat, and Lois Bradshaw and her husband, Rob, of Montrose; her son Wes Hiner, of Montana; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles Bruce; and her son Richard Hiner.
Cremation has taken place, and private family services will be held at a later date.
