Norman Lee Herwick, age 88,
died August 5, 2013, at St. Mary's
Medical Center in Grand Junction,
CO.
He was born November 29,
1924, in Grand Valley (now Parachute)
to Oren and Katherine
Slaymaker Herwick. He graduated
from the Grand Valley High
School in 1942.
Norman, or Bud as he was known, was independent, hard-working,
and self-reliant. He enlisted in the Navy in 1943, and upon his discharge
in 1946, he returned to Grand Valley. That same year Nor -
man met Hazel Parker and they married November 24, 1946, in
Rifle, Colorado and celebrated over 64 years together before Hazel's
death in 2011.
Norman was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel, parents and sister,
Orien Etcheverry. He is survived by two sons, Jim of Gunnison,
and Larry (Kathy); granddaughters, Misty (Rob) Henson; Kristi
(Tim) Davis; grandsons, Kelly (Karie) Herwick; Andy (Cassie)
Herwick, and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his
sisters, Zelda Montoya and Carol McManus; four nieces, one
nephew, and special family friends, Susan and Harvey Armstrong.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
