Robert "Bob" Warren Patterson died May 24, 2008. He was 82.
He was born in Wichita, Kan., on March 13, 1926. After service in the Navy in WWII, Bob married his high school sweetheart, Gladys, on Dec. 5, 1945, in San Francisco. Together they became part of the post-war generation who gave their community bright examples of honest work ethics and never hesitating to reach out a helping hand to others. He graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in mechanical engineering and settled in Littleton in 1956. He had a long, distinguished career designing spacecraft/launch vehicles, as he truly was our rocket scientist. In 1988, after 32 years, he retired from Martin Marietta and he and his wife took off to settle in the mountains of Steamboat Springs, where they found so much joy while spending the snowier months in Mesa, Ariz. Bob was an avid golfer, fisherman and loved exploring the Colorado wilderness. He was everyone's Mr. Fix-It as he knew how everything worked and had every tool/supply to get the job done. He is survived by his beloved wife, Gladys; son David Patterson (Betty), of McKinney, Texas; daughter Janice Kirchhof (Francis) of Littleton; grandchildren Shannon Patterson of Lone Tree, Julie Rinehart (Matt) of Highlands Ranch, Jennifer Dunklin (Dan) of Aurora and Daniel Holland of Littleton; great-grandchildren Koen and Kaias Rinehart, and many other family members and friends. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.
