Lois Elaine BRENDEN passed away at Heritage Park Care Center in Carbondale on New Year's Eve 2010 of complications following surgery for a broken hip.
Lois was born Nov. 27, 1921, in Portland, N.D., to Thomas Helge SKADELAND and Nora Olson SKADELAND. After college, she was a country school teacher for two years, teaching all grades from kindergarten to 12th grade in a one-room schoolhouse. She was married on Aug. 3, 1943, to Andreas BRENDEN. They later divorced. Andreas preceded her in death.
They had eight children, Catherine BEYER (Robert), of Sweetwater; Sandra BRENDEN, Susan BRENDEN and Jon BRENDEN, all of Vail; Robert BRENDEN, of Dixon, N.M.; Richard BRENDEN and Kent BRENDEN (Penny), of Denver; and Karen REID, of Edwards. There are eight grandchildren, David, Christopher and Mia BEYER; Willa BRENDEN and Maggie Brenden GREENWALD; and Ian, Alex and Lauren REID, and two great-grandchildren, Alivia and Ezra Brenden GREENWALD.
Lois lived at the Golden Eagle Senior Center in Eagle for 19 years before moving to Heritage Park Assisted Living in Carbondale in June 2009. She had many good friends at the Golden Eagle Senior Center and missed them after moving. There will be a memorial service in the summer of 2011.
