Steamboat Today - July 21, 2008

Longtime Oak Creek resident Charles James Bevan died July 14, 2008, at Doak Walker Care Center in Steamboat Springs after a battle with cancer. He was 69 years old.
Charlie known as "Good Time Charlie" was born May 11, 1939, in Dallas, Ore.
He joined the Navy at 18 and served four years. Charlie was injured during that time and was honorably discharged. Although not active, he stayed a proud Navy man up until his last days.
He had many different jobs throughout the years and also worked for Union Pacific Railroad for several of them. He took an early retirement after being injured on the job.
Charlie enjoyed gambling, fishing, the mountains, spending time with friends and his two dogs. He loved bluegrass music and could play the banjo and mandolin like no other. He also was an active member of the National Rifle Association for several years. He was always up to sharing a story, laughing at a good joke and simply enjoying life. He always made people feel welcome, had a huge heart and was always willing to lend a helping hand.
He took great pride in all of his vehicles. They were always in tip-top shape, inside and out. No matter where you saw him out and about, they were always shining and twinkling, just like his bright blue eyes. He will be missed by many.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a son.
Services were July 23 at Oak Creek Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars organization in Steamboat Springs.
