Spring Creek Death

Eagle County Sheriff's Deputies responded to an apparent suicide March 22.

The victim was David Wolfe of Eagle.

Deputies were called to a location along Spring Creek Road, where they found a body lying next to a van. The body was lying in a pool of blood, with a rifle nearby. Subsequent investigation revealed a gunshot wound to the head.

A couple camping nearby reported hearing gunshots around 8:30 a.m.

At the man's residence, a friend found a note from Wolfe detailing various financial issues. Additionally, the note included a brief apology.

According to Wolfe's friends, he had been upset recently about relationship issues. Additionally, one of his friends noted Wolfe's meticulous nature, and said it would be characteristic for him to leave financial instructions, and to fire a shot to determine if his gun was ... [words end here]

Dave Wolfe, of V ail

Dave Wolfe, a Vail resident and former ski instructor, died March 22 in Gypsum. He was 37.

Wolfe, originally from Millheim, Pa., was the son of Patricia Manley Wolfe, of Milheim, and Dave Wolfe Sr. of Spring Mills, Pa.

Wolfe moved to Vail in 1988 and was a professional ski instructor at Beaver Creek and Vail mountains. He trained other ski-school instructors and was manager of the Vail-Beaver Creek demonstration ski team.

Since 1994, Wolfe had worked as a homebuilder and independent contractor.

He was an avid snowmobiler, dirt biker and motorcycle rider and represented the United States at the International Six Days Enduro, an off-road motorcycle race in France and Czechoslovakia, friends and family members said.

A celebration of life service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Mid-Vail. Friends, relatives and attendees are asked to baord the Vista Bahn Express chairlift at 4:45 p.m. and to dress warmly and with winter shoes as they will be walking the sort distance from the top of the chairlift to Sarge's Shelter at Mid-Vail.
