Allen L. Buffington, 87, Grand Junction, died Dec. 1, 2012, at
Family Health West.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Callahan-Edfast
Mortuary.
Mr. Buffington was a retired heavy-equipment operator.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel; two sons, John of Newcomerstown,
Ohio, and Nick Ottman of Fruita; four daughters, Sarah
Cameron and Dollie Prather, both of De Beque, Teresa Lehman of
Fruita and Kathy Ottman of Grand Junction; three sisters, Arvilla
Kiser of De Beque, Etta Lou Macdonnell of Grand Junction and
Mona Ullerick of Fruita; 14 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

Allen Loyde Buffington died
peacefully on December 1, 2012,
at Family Health West in Fruita,
CO. He was 87 years old.
Allen was born in DeBeque, CO
to Allen E. Buffington and Celia
E. Simmons. He joined the Local
Operating Engineers #9 Union,
working for 55 years operating
heavy equipment in Colorado and
Utah, receiving a plaque and a gold watch when he retired. His interests
included hunting, horses, and dogs and he took great pleasure
in his blended family.
He married Betty Van Cleave on October 20,1945, in DeBeque,
CO. Together they were married 24 years and had four children,
John, Sarah, Dollie and Gerald. They later divorced. He married
Joanne Bowman on September 3,1971. They later divorced. He then
married Hazel Ottman on July 2, 1978, and would have celebrated
their 35th wedding anniversary in 2013.
Allen was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Gerald Buffington;
a brother, Robert Buffington; a sister, Betty Cook, and a
step-grandson, Michael Murray. He is survived by his sisters, Arvilla
Kiser of Debeque, CO; Mona (Packy) Ullerick of Fruita, CO ,
and Etta Lou (George) Macdonell of Grand Junction, CO; son, John
(Betty) Buffington of Newcomerstown, Ohio; daughters, Sarah
Cameron of DeBeque, CO, and Dollie (Ned) Prather of DeBeque,
CO; step-children, Teresa (John) Lehman of Fruita, CO; Kathy Ottman
of Grand Junction, CO, and Nick (Becky) Ottman of Fruita,
CO; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and
nephews, and his beloved horse, Fancy.
Services will be held at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary on Thursday ,
December 6, 2012, at 10:00 a.m.

of Western Colorado, Special Olympics or Roice-Hurst Humane Society.
