Addie Kruse Zimmerman died Sept. 27, 2008, in Craig. She was 97.
Addie Fay Kruse Zimmerman was born in Neosho, Mo., on April 4, 1911, to Charlie and Alice Kruse. She was the fourth child and the second daughter of 11 children.
The Kruse family moved from Neosho to Rifle in the summer of 1924. They traveled by train three days, arriving after dark the third night. There was one train change with a six-hour stop in Pueblo.
Addie attended a one-room county school through the eighth grade and then went to high school in Rifle. She worked as a waitress and cashier at Burchie's Cafe in Rifle, where she met J.L. "Pete" Zimmerman. They were married Feb. 18, 1931. To this union four children were born, one who died in infancy.
Addie and Pete lived in western Colorado and eastern Utah until they moved to Steamboat Springs in 1947. Addie worked in the school lunch program until she became the cook and manager of the kitchen in RM Hospital. Addie held that position for 20 years until she retired at the age of 65. She then worked in the school janitorial service, vacuuming rooms for a couple of years.
Addie joined the Seventh Day Adventist Church and was baptized in Walton Creek on Rabbit Ears Pass. She was a member of the LRC Club from 1987 until her death. She loved to hike, fish and camp with her family. She learned to crochet after she was 65 and made several afghans for her family.
Addie's parents, Charlie and Alice Kruse; six brothers; three sisters; her husband, Pete; daughter, Peggy Ellen; granddaughter, Peggy Jo; grandson, Howard Dale; great-granddaughter, Randi Danielle; and son-in-law, Howard Mosher, all preceded her in death.
She leaves behind her daughter, Alice Mosher, of Lake Elsinore, Calif.; daughter, Juanita "Nita" Mosher, and her husband, Floyd, of Fruita; son, Joe Zimmerman, and his wife, Betsy, of Yampa; 10 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 22 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Alice Eaton, and her husband, Bob, of Meyer, Ariz.; sister-in-law, Anna Kruse, of Ronan, Mont.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were held Oct. 1 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Interment was at the Craig Cemetery.
