Henry "Hank" Stroncek passed away in Steamboat Springs on Nov. 19, 2008. He was 85.
Hank was born April 2, 1923, in Minneapolis and served overseas in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1942 to 1946. On April 27, 1946, he married Elaine, who would become his wife of 56 years, in Minneapolis.
Henry worked many years in the construction trade as a latherer. Hank, Elaine and family moved to Steamboat in 1971. He worked many years at the Steamboat Ski Area, on the Christie Lift and as a ticket checker on the gondola until he retired in the 1980s.
Hank loved hunting, fishing, the outdoors and woodworking.
He was a member of the local chapter of the VFW, Concordia Lutheran Church, and was the friend of many at the Steamboat Springs Community Center.
Hank is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Larry Worrell, of Steamboat Springs; his son and daughter-in-law, Lee and Janet Stroncek, of Bozeman, Mont.; grandson and wife, Rob and Anje Worrell, of Steamboat Springs; grandson, Nathan of Bozeman; and two great-grandsons, Zane and Cody, sons of Rob and Anje.
Hank was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine, in 2002.
He will be honored with a military graveside service at noon today at Steamboat Springs Cemetery, with a memorial celebration following at 2 p.m. at Concordia Lutheran Church. A luncheon will follow.

Longtime Steamboat Springs resident Henry Stroncek died Nov. 19, 2008, at Yampa Valley Medical Center. He will be honored with a military graveside service at noon Sunday at the Steamboat Springs Cemetery, followed by memorial services at 2 p.m. Sunday at Concordia Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to LIFT-UP of Routt County in care of Yampa Valley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 776090, Steamboat Springs, CO, 80477.
