Longtime Steamboat Springs resident Lynn H. Jones died March 22, 2007, in Steamboat Springs. He was 88.
Lynn was born in Steamboat Springs on Jan. 23, 1919. He attended school in Hayden and later worked as a butcher in Mount Harris. Lynn served in the U.S. Army during World War II and returned to the Yampa Valley after the war. He went to work for the Routt National Forest Service and worked for 31 years on the Hahn's Peak District doing everything from timber sales, range management and maintaining trails in the Mount Zirkel Wilderness area.
After retiring from the U.S. Forest Service, Lynn enjoyed traveling to Alaska to visit daughter Ramona Finnoff to do some fishing in the Brooks Range. He continued to enjoy the outdoors and fished Steamboat's many lakes and streams throughout his retirement.
Lynn is survived by his wife, Rossie Jones, and their daughters, Donna Brown of Monroeville, Ala., Ramona Finnoff of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Carla Jones, of Steamboat Springs. Lynn also is survived by his brothers, Bob and his wife, Evelyn Jones, of Steamboat Springs, and Alton Jones, of Alabama.
Lynn Jones was a good man who worked hard and made his family proud.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
