Walter L. Waldrop
September 19, 1933 - April 23, 2007

Part-time Steamboat Springs resident Walter I. Waldrop passed away April 23, 2007, of complications from Parkinson's disease. He was 73.
He was born Sept. 19, 1933, in Jackson, Miss.
Walt attended Hinds Junior College on an athletic scholarship, and then transferred to Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss., where he played football and baseball. He was president of the Phi Kappa Alpha fraternity and graduated with a degree in geology. Walt served honorably for three years in the U.S. Marine Corps as a first lieutenant. Walt successfully owned and operated B & W Metals for 28 years.
He and his wife owned a home in Steamboat for 17 years. He was an avid golfer and will be missed by his many, many friends on and around the links.
He is survived by his bride of 52 years, Jeanelle H. Waldrop; his sons, Philip A. Waldrop and his wife, Carol, and Daniel S. Waldrop and his wife, Linda; grandchildren Philip, Justin, and Emily Waldrop; brother, Jack Waldrop; and cousin, Virginia Jacoby.
A memorial service was held in the chapel at Grace Presbyterian Church on April 27, 2007. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made toward Parkinson's Research. The family thanks the staff of Parkway Place and the many caregivers who helped Walt during the years as well as Heartland Hospice Services.
