Raymond M. Banning
December 24, 1959 - April 20, 2007

Former Steamboat Springs resident Raymond M. Banning died April 20, 2007, as a result of an accident at his home in Jeffersonville, Ind. He was 47.
Raymond Michael was born Dec. 24, 1959, in Mandan, the son of Raymond Eugene and Dorothy (Maas) Banning. He was raised on the family ranch northwest of Flasher, N.D. In 1980, after graduating from Flasher High School, he went to Wahpeton and graduated on the dean's list from NDSSS.
He married Martha Paplow in Kearney, Neb., on April 7, 1979. Four children were born to this union, Brian, Raymond, Sarah and Amber. After graduation from Wahpeton, they moved to Craig and in the following year to Steamboat Springs. In 1986, he started a plumbing and mechanical company that was incorporated in 1987 as Banning Inc. dba A Plumber.
In 1997, Ray started another corporation called Bannco Inc., which focused on building and selling homes in the area. In 2005, he sold his business and was offered a management position with Gioffre Companies Inc., based out of Jeffersonville, Ind. He also was part of the Banning Bros. Ranching operation in Flasher, N.D.
Ray enjoyed life outdoors and spent a great deal of his time in Colorado with his family doing just that, whether exploring all there was to see in that beautiful state or spending time with his children during their various activities. Above all, it can be said Ray was a marvelous and devoted dad.
Ray was preceded in death by his father, R. E. Banning; his grandparents; and a stepbrother, Dean Feland.
Ray will be missed by those who survive him, including his mother and step-father, Dorothy and Bob Feland of Flasher, N.D.; his daughters, Sarah and Amber Banning, both of Winnsboro, Texas; his sons, Brian and his wife, Montessa, and their son, Gavriel of Buckeye, Ariz., and Raymond IV of Ft. Collins; his former wife, Martha Stribling of Winnsboro, Texas; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Kevin and Angie Banning of Corona, Calif., Kim Banning and his daughter, Brooke, of Steamboat Springs, Kory and Karen Banning of Mound, Minn.; very special cousins, Scott and Wendy Sinclair of Phoenix, Ariz., Jill and Art Gaskins of Castro Valley, Calif., and Gary and Kathy Stoddard and Toby Thompson, all of Gehring, Neb.; a step-sister, Patty Hoovestal and her husband, Duane, of Almont; and a host of very special friends from Steamboat Springs and Flasher, N.D., as well as numerous other family members.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held April 26, 2007, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Flasher, N.D., with the Reverend Todd Kreitinger as celebrant. Burial will be in Fairhill Cemetery in Flasher, N.D.
