Former Clark resident Violet M. McLaughlin passed away Dec. 20, 2007, at the Paonia Care and Rehabilitation Center in Paonia. She was 95.
She was born Violet M. Dhooge on Jan. 15, 1912, to Thomas and Viola (Britton) Dhooge, in Keota. Violet grew up in Keota and New Raymer, and attended school in Keota.
On Jan. 30, 1937, Violet married the love of her life, George W. McLaughlin, in Greeley. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Clark, where Violet resided until 1984, when she moved to Crawford. Her husband George preceded her in death on Nov. 8, 1975, in Clark.
Violet loved her family, and her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren were an added joy. She did everything for her family. She also enjoyed cooking and the ranching life.
Those grateful to have shared in Violet's life include her three sons: Roy and Glen McLaughlin, both of Crawford, and Harold McLaughlin, of Enterprise, Ore. She is survived by 17 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren. Violet was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, a son, and eight brothers and sisters.
Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 28, at Mountain View Bible Church in Lazear, with Rev. Jim Jesser officiating. Violet was buried Saturday next to her husband at the Clark Cemetery in Clark.
