Jerry Davis Little passed away at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital on Oct. 25, 2007, after a yearlong battle with congestive heart failure. He was 74.
Jerry was born Jan. 1, 1933, to Monroe Little and Laura Coder-Little of Wewoka, Okla. He grew up in Oklahoma and after high school joined the Marine Corps, for which he served five years in the Korean War, earning the Korea Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
After Korea, he moved to Colorado, where he met his first wife, Eunice, and had three sons: Jerry Jr., Jim and Steve. He worked for several coal mine companies in the area during the next 20 years before retiring to Phippsburg. While in Phippsburg, he met his second wife, Christine, and because they always wanted to see Alaska, they eventually moved to Fairbanks. While in Fairbanks, the two traveled extensively throughout Alaska - from the north at Purdue Bay to the south of the Alaska inlet and into the Yukon Territory. After traveling, Jerry settled once more into a job with the DOD Transportation Motor Pool as a commercial driver with the duties of transporting the 172nd Stryker Brigade and their equipment around Alaska for training.
Always outspoken and never shy, Jerry shared all with those numerous friends and family members he held so dear. He touched many lives, spreading humor and joy wherever he went. Jerry will be missed by all whose lives he embraced.
Many thanks go to the friends and relatives who visited during his final days and to the loving and faithful care he received from his wife, Christine, son Jerry Jr., the emergency room staff of FMC, who worked so hard to revive him, and their ICU unit that provided comfort in his final days.
He leaves behind his wife, Christine, of Fairbanks, Alaska; three sons, Jerry Jr., of Albuquerque, N.M., Jim and Steve of Denver; eight grandchildren, Zach, Samantha, Jerry III of Albuquerque, N.M.. Josh, Frankie, Johnny, and Ricky of Phippsburg, and Austin of Denver; and two sisters in Oklahoma.
Cremation took place at Fairbanks Funeral Home. The family will hold a private ceremony at a later date.
Jerry, you were my happiness, my love, my life, my world. I will miss you dearly. Until we meet again, bye my love.
