Steamboat Today - September 9, 2007

Former longtime Steamboat Springs resident Henry J. "Pete" Etzler passed away Aug. 31, 2007, at his home in Fruita. He was 79.
Pete was born to Henry Claude and Dora Irene (Pritchett) Etzler on Dec. 14, 1927, in Steamboat Springs.
Pete was primarily raised in the Steamboat Springs area, and that is where he met the love of his life, Donna Dean.
After a tour in the U.S. Navy, which he joined in 1946, he returned to Colorado, and he and Donna were married. To this union came four children, Dick, Bob, Kathy and Don.
Pete was a man of many trades. Throughout the years, he was a mechanic, coal miner, farmer and eventually bought a business in Steamboat, which turned into Pete's Auto.
He sold grass seed, was a mechanic, ran a wrecker business and sold tires.
In 1997, he sold his business and retired to the Grand Junction area.
Pete enjoyed playing cards, hunting, fishing, boating on Lake Powell and, of course, teasing his grandchildren.
Proceeding him in death are his parents, two brothers, a sister, his wife and a son.
He is survived by his daughter, Kathy Dobbs of Fruita; son, Donald, and his wife, Dixie Etzler, of Grand Junction; son, Robert, of Nevada; sister, Lillian Robinson, of Grand Junction; brother, Willard Etzler, of Wheaton, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Sept. 7, 2007, at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary. Viewing was from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Interment will be at Memorial Gardens.
