Longtime Hayden resident Jose Olmedo "Joe" Archuleta died Aug. 3, 2007, at the Sandrock Ridge Care and Rehabilitation Center in Craig. He was 88.
He was born Nov. 1, 1918, in Rodarte, N.M., to Enrique and Lucy (Sandoval) Archuleta. He was raised and attended school in Rodarte.
Joe married Lucy Fresquez on Dec. 5, 1939, in Penasco, N.M. They made their home in Rodarte until moving to Leadville in 1943 and then to Hayden in 1955. Joe worked in the mines while in Leadville and for the railroad in Hayden. He retired after about 30 years of employment.
Joe enjoyed fishing and hunting and loved to whistle. He also enjoyed caring for his large family.
He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy; his parents; a sister, Arsenia; a brother, John; and sons, Orlando, Fidel and Bobby.
He is survived by his daughters, Sally Archuleta of Hayden, Mary Ann and her husband, Frank Franco, of Mack, Lucy Archuleta of Hayden, Sylvia and her husband, Jeff Archuleta, of Hayden, Vickie Archuleta of Hayden and Bernardine Faricy of Grand Junction; sons, Joe and his wife, Pita Archuleta, of Craig, Ernest and his wife, Linda Archuleta, of Hayden, George and his wife, Letha Archuleta, of Hayden, Solome and his wife, Cindy Archuleta, of Elko, Nev., and Pat Archuleta of Fruita; 16 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Vigil services were held Aug. 7, 2007, at The Grant Mortuary Chapel.
Funeral services were held Aug. 8, 2007, at St. Michael Catholic Church with Fr. Randy Dollins officiating. The soloist was Joyce Miller, who sang "I'll Fly Away" and "The Little Church in The Wildwood." She was accompanied on the guitar by James Campbell. Pallbearers were Joey Archuleta, Cody Franco, Curlin Archuleta, Levi Archuleta, Raymond Archuleta and Nathaniel Archuleta. Interment followed in the Hayden Cemetery.
