Former Routt County resident Ruth Ellen Riffe died Aug. 13, 2006, at Southwest Memorial Hospital in Cortez. She was 89.
Ruth was born Jan. 14, 1917, in Trull, to John B. and Sadie (Ritchskey) Blandford. Ruth grew up in Routt County and had many wonderful memories of her time spent there. Ruth married Dudley Dwain Riffe on June 30, 1949, in Central City. They enjoyed 56 years of marriage together. She was a member of the Cortez Church of Christ.
Ruth was a very family oriented woman. Camping and fishing were activities she treasured. Her family will attest she was a highly opinionated person; there was never much questioning how she felt about things. Ruth was a gifted crafter, and she enjoyed crocheting and any project that allowed her to use her artistic ability. She had two special Chihuahuas that will miss her greatly.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dudley Dwain Riffe in January 2006; her son, Bill Petry; and her siblings, Joseph, John, Rollie, Robert, George and Anthony Blandford and Katie Mathias and Babe Blomquist.
Ruth is survived by her three daughters, Evonne Wofford and her husband, Joe, of Arriola, Linda Barry of Dolores and Jacque Webb of Dolores; her daughter-in-law, Bernita Petry of Golden; 12 grandchildren, Kathy Wyatt, Debbie Hiett, Bill Petry, Mark Petry, Joe Wofford, Mike Wofford, Mandy Woosley, David Morris, Dale Morris, Justin Webb, Jared Webb and Jeremy Webb; 16 great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Mayme McElhiney of Fountain and Charlotte Shaul of Craig.
The funeral for Ruth was held Aug. 18, 2006, at the Cortez Church of Christ. Mr. Jeff Foster officiated. Interment followed at the Summit Ridge Cemetery.
