Former Hayden resident Arthur A. Valora died Nov. 15, 2006, at his home in Craig surrounded by his extended family.
He was 89.
He was born on Feb. 25, 1917, in North Whitehall, Lehigh County, Pa., to Mike and Dora (Yurichin) Valora. He was raised and attended school in North Whitehall.
Art joined the U.S. Army, serving in the Air Corps from February 1941 until his discharge in June 1945.
Art married Joyce Hin-
thorn in April of 1945 in Pennsylvania. They moved to Laramie, Wyo., where Art ran a Texaco filling station and later worked in the timber business around Laramie. They moved to Craig in 1955 and to Hayden in 1960. While in Hayden, Art served as the town marshall.
They returned to Craig in 1976, and he has resided here since that time. He and Joyce were divorced. Prior to his retirement, Art was a coal miner at Empire Energy.
Art was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and belonged to the Disabled American Veterans and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. He enjoyed anything to do with the outdoors, especially fishing, hunting and camping. Art also had his private pilot's license and enjoyed flying.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Sophia, Mary, Dora, Helen, Lena, Mildred and Cora; brothers, Preston, Mike, Tom, Bill and his twin brother, who died shortly after birth; a granddaughter, Tammy Hahn; and a great-granddaughter, Kaitlin Jean Miller.
He is survived by his daughters, Sharon and her husband, Bob Meckley, of Craig, and Cindy and her husband, Allen Foster, of Delta; sons, Gary and his wife, Mary Valora, of Hayden, and Lyle and his wife, Gail Valora, of Hayden; 11 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
