James Lawrence Burns, 92, Grand Junction, died Dec. 11,
2012, at home.
A Mass will be at noon today at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic
Church.
Survivors include two sons, Chris of Grand Junction and Andrew
of Santa Fe, N.M.; two daughters, Murchie Burns and Sheila
Burns, both of Santa Fe; five grandchildren; and seven greatgrandchildren.

Larry Burns, age 92, died peacefully
in his reading chair at home
Tuesday morning. His son, Chris
and nephew, Tom Burns were
with him.
Larry is survived by his children,
Andrew, Murchie, Sheila and
Chris; five grandchildren and
seven great-grandchildren. He met his wife of 68 years, Bette, in
Glenwood Springs where he was a bellhop at the Colorado Hotel.
They traveled extensively in their retirement years, mostly to visit
their progeny in different parts of the US. Bette passed away in July,
2011. They were pre-deceased by two children, Peggy and Tim.
Born at his grandmother's home in Parks, Nebraska, Larry grew up
on various farms, moved to Colorado and graduated from Basalt
High School. He attended and played football at Mesa Junior Col -
lege in Grand Junction.
A veteran of WWII, Larry served in the Army Air Corp as a B-2 9
crewman on Tinian Island, from which the U.S. flew the atomic
bombs that were dropped on Japan. Life leads to many transforma -
tions, and in 1986, Larry participated in the Great Peace March for
Nuclear Disarmament, marching from LA to Washington, DC to
raise awareness. He personally vowed to practice peace in thought,
word and deed.
Larry was an active member of AA since 1983. He was also active
with Habitat for Humanity, Peace & Justice, and Catholic Outreach.
Visitation will be 4 -6:00 p.m. Friday, December 14th, at
Callahan-Edfast Mortuary. Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday ,
December 15 at Calvary Cemetery. The funeral Mass will be held at
12:00 p.m. Saturday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church,
followed by a reception.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Catholic Outreach
and Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Colorado.
