B.B. Andersen, a Kansas City contractor and real estate developer, passed away Oct. 29 at St. Luke’s Hospice House, Kansas City, Mo., after a courageous battle with brain cancer. He was born Jan. 18, 1936, in Geddes, S.D., to Wilber and Devota Andersen.

Bigger than life with a heart to match, B.B. had an unmatched zest for life. A world traveler and avid sportsman, B.B. was a lover of fine cigars, fine wine, close friends and good political debate. His political impact and involvement was on the national level. Skiing, sailing, golf and flying were just a few of his passions. Known by many as a conservative champion, B.B. loved and served his country in various capacities for more than three decades.

B.B. was often described as “one of kind.” A man with strong convictions and a “can do” attitude and a believer in truth above all. He loved spending time with his many pals and his favorite service companion, Gracie.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Jan; their daughter, Alexandra; four sons and their wives, Mark (Susan), John (Darci), Todd (Jane) and Darren (Julie); eight grandchildren; brothers Ron (Mary) and Layne (Karen); and sisters Valerie Andersen and Sharda (Andy) Sydzyik.

Rosary and visitation will be held today from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at Newcomers Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, Kan. The funeral Mass will be held on Saturday at noon at Visitation Catholic Church, 5141 Main St., Kansas City, Mo.

In lieu of flowers, please consider St. Luke’s Hospice House, Kansas City, Mo.; University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan.; or Bravo! Vail.
