Helen I. (Webber) Duncan, of Craig, died Sunday at The Memorial Hospital. A service is at 1 p.m. Friday at Grant Mortuary. Burial will follow in the Craig Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice in care of Grant Mortuary.

Helen Duncan, a Yampa Valley native, died Dec. 13, 2009, at The Memorial Hospital in Craig.
Helen was born to Walter and Gertrude Webber on July 11, 1926, near Coalview, east of Mount Harris. She grew up in Steamboat Springs where her dad ran a radio and electric store. Her two brothers, Chuck and Raymond, and three sisters, Eloise, Ilagrace and Norieta, kept her busy. Her mom taught her how to sew and she was a great seamstress.
She met Rodney Duncan, and they were married in November 1947 at her parent’s home in Steamboat. The couple had three children: Edwin, Kirby and Sharon.
After experiencing life at several sawmill camps — Pilot Rock, Columbine, Red Park and Clark — in North Routt County where Rodney worked, they moved back to Steamboat in 1964 where Rodney took over his dad’s metal shop.
Helen was a wonderful homemaker and housewife and enjoyed cooking and canning.
In 1976, Rodney and Helen moved to Craig, purchased some land north of town,
and using logs that Rodney cut, they labored together to construct their new home. Helen set up her sewing machines in the basement
and eventually established her own drapery business and the Cozy Quilts quilting home business.
Helen loved to go fishing, camping and to be outdoors with family and friends. She and Rodney square danced for more than 25 years, and she made their dancing outfits. She liked columbines, yellow roses and dog-toothed violets and collected owl figurines and plates from various states. Helen treasured the Christmas holiday season because her dad started the “Roaming Christmas Tree” tradition in Steamboat when she was a child, and since then, has helped carry on the continuing tradition.
Helen is remembered as a devoted and loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and aunt. She is survived by her husband, Rodney; sons Edwin and his wife, Kathy, and family, and Kirby and wife, Kathy, and family, all of Steamboat; daughter, Sharon Haynes, and husband, Craig, and family; brother Charles Webber, of Alabama; and sister Norita Rule, of Alaska. Helen enjoyed her eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father; two sisters Ilagraqce and Elouise; and a brother, Raymond.
Memorial donations may be made to the Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association.
