Ernestine Salaz was born June
10, 1923, in Cleveland, New
Mexico to Eulogio and Anita Padilla.
As a young child, she and her
parents moved to Grand Junction,
C o l o r a d o . E r n e s t i n e m a r r i e d
Thomas Linan. From that union,
they had one daughter, and they
later divorced. Ernestine married
Antonio H. Salaz and from this union four children were born.
Ernestine was widowed at a young age.
She kept busy raising two grandchildren, going to church, reading,
volunteering for Headstart and Gray Gourmet, and talking on the
phone with friends and family.
Ernestine is survived by her children, Mary (Don) Dowd, and
Rafael (Margaret) Salaz, both of Grand Junction; Victor (Ruth) of
Arvada; Larry (Marty) Salaz, and Mary (Eudoro) Morfin, both of
Grand Junction; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; sister,
Caroline Valencia of Grand Junction, and numerous nieces and
nephews.
She is preceded in death by husband, Antonio H. Salaz; brothers,
Richard, Gilbert, Leo, Joe, and John, and granddaughter, Victoria
Linon.
A viewing will take place on Thursday, April 4 from 5 - 7:00 p.m.
at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary. A Mass will take place on Friday ,
April 5, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Burial
will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Fruita, Colorado.
